Career synopsis

I initiated my career as a school teacher, before starting my degree in Biology. I continued teaching during, and after completing the degree, in a total of nine years. I was then offered a permanent position, but my keen interest in research led me to decide for a career change and for over 15 years, I have been working as a marine biologist. I worked in several projects, and have published several articles (for details see theses and publications). My work has been presented in scientific meetings, such as congresses, workshops, forums, and invited seminars (see scientific meetings). In addition, I have also lectured several subjects of the marine Biology course at Portsmouth University, UK. My experience in research, writing, presenting, and lecturing inspired me to combine teaching and research. I will share this experience with younger scientists and other professionals using tailor-made workshops, while continuing to work in research projects.

Theses

PhD thesis: Biogeography of wood boring organisms in European coastal waters and new approaches to controlling borer attack.

Diploma thesis: Stramonita haemastoma (Gastropoda: Muricidae) an indicator of tributyltin (TBT) pollution in the waters of the harbour and marina of Ponta Delgada (Azores).
