The program and its source code (Python3.3+) are made available as open source under the GPLv3 license. The latest version of the code can be downloaded from the github repository, or it can be installed from the python PyPi repository using pip (for python3). Version 0.2.4 of FastaChar, as described and used in the scientific paper "Make every species count: fastachar software for rapid determination of molecular diagnostic characters to describe species", published in the journal Molecular Ecology Resources, can be download from github as release version 0.2.4.
