  • Assessment of the deterioration of in-service wooden structures by marine wood borers

  • Evaluation of marine wood-boring hazard in coastal areas prior to the construction of wooden structures

  • Morphological and molecular identification of specimens

  • High-quality imaging of specimens ready for publication

  • Desk studies to collect and synthesize data for mapping species distributions (biogeography)

Capabilities include:

  • Univariate and multivariate statistical analyses to assess how variables affect organisms

  • Alignment of sequences

  • Comparison of sequences (nucleotide queries) to databases of nucleotide sequences, such as NCBI, using the Basic Local Alignment Search Tool (BLASTn)

  • Molecular-based species delimitation using methods such as Automatic Barcoding Gap Discovery (ABGD), General Mixed Yule-Coalescent (GMYC), and Bayesian Phylogenetics and Phylogeography (BPP).

  • Species descriptions using morphological and molecular diagnostic characters

  • Phylogenetic inference, using methods such as Bayesian Inference (BI), Maximum Likelihood (ML), and Neighbour-Joining (NJ)
